OUR COMMITMENT

MAISON 1822 sells exclusively to persons of legal age. This commitment is not a formality: it is a condition for carrying on our business, and a responsibility we take seriously in both markets where we operate.

We refuse any order which we have reason to believe comes from a minor or is intended for one, and we reserve the right to cancel an order and refund the buyer without further justification.

THE FRENCH FRAMEWORK

In France, the sale and the free offering of alcoholic beverages to minors under eighteen are prohibited by the French Public Health Code. The seller must require proof of the buyer's legal age.

Advertising for alcoholic beverages is moreover strictly regulated by the law known as the Evin Law (French law on alcohol advertising): the permitted content is limited to objective information about the product, its origin, its composition and its method of production, and every communication must be accompanied by the legal health message.

Our communications are never addressed to minors, do not use graphic codes likely to attract them, and are not distributed on media intended for them.

THE BRAZILIAN FRAMEWORK

In Brazil, Law No. 13.106 of 17 March 2015 amended the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA) to make it a criminal offence to sell, supply, serve, administer or deliver an alcoholic beverage to a child or adolescent, even free of charge.

The applicable penalty is detention of two to four years, together with a fine. Offending establishments are liable to a fine and to administrative closure.

This prohibition applies even where the minor is accompanied by his or her parents or by a responsible adult.

HOW WE VERIFY

  • On entering the site — a confirmation of legal age is requested before access to the catalogue.
  • At the time of order — the customer declares that they are at least eighteen years old and accepts our terms of sale.
  • On delivery — the carrier may require an identity document to be produced. If the buyer refuses or is unable to prove their legal age, the goods are not handed over.
  • In case of doubt — we may request additional supporting documents before dispatch, or cancel the order.

The data collected on that occasion is processed in accordance with our privacy policy and is used for no other purpose.

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION

Wine is to be shared, not endured. A few benchmarks we make our own:

  • No consumption of alcohol during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • No consumption before driving or operating machinery.
  • Alternate with water, never drink on an empty stomach.
  • Respect the choice of those who do not drink.

REPORTING A BREACH

If you find that a minor has been able to access our products or to send us their data, report it to us immediately via the contact page. We handle such reports as a priority.

Please drink responsibly. Sale prohibited to persons under 18.
