Morgeot Abbey

History

Around 1150, the Cistercian monks of the abbey of Maizières established an annex in Morgeot, a hamlet located south of Chassagne-Montrachet, giving birth to the climate and the abbey that today bears his name. In the 15th century, the village was devastated by the army of the King of France, the inhabitants remaining faithful to Mary of Burgundy; only the remains of the chapel remain, below the climate.

Domaine located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune vineyard, in Chassagne-Montrachet (Côte-d'Or), on the historic climate "Abbaye de Morgeot", the official Premier Cru of the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation (classified in 1977) covering about 8.5 hectares.

The Vineyard

Terroir of clay-limestone marls tinted with iron oxide on limestone base (Bathonian), suitable for both Chardonnay (majority) and Pinot Noir. The climate of Morgeot Abbey is an encompassing term covering the vineyards of Morgeot and La Chapelle, located on either side of the buildings of the former abbey.
