Château Brane Cantenac

History

The name of the castle comes from the Baron de Brane, who gave it its letters of nobility in the nineteenth century before the property joined the Cantenac vineyard. Confirmed Second Grand Cru Classé in the official classification of Bordeaux wines in 1855, Brane-Cantenac has belonged to the Lurton family since 1925; Henri Lurton took over the management in 1992, pursuing a family work based on requirement and continuity.

Château Brane-Cantenac, Second Grand Cru Classé of the Margaux appellation since the 1855 classification, is now managed by Henri Lurton. The estate extends over the Cantenac gravel plateau, a terroir considered one of the most qualitative in the Médoc. The philosophy of the property is based on one principle: never seek efficiency or ease, but ever greater precision in the expression of the terroir.

The Vineyard

The vineyard is located on the Cantenac gravel plateau, a historic Médoc terroir made up of Garonne gravel deposited on several successive terraces. A fine mapping of the soils made it possible to identify these terraces, each giving a distinct expression: Château Brane-Cantenac comes mainly from terrace 4, with deep gravel giving structured tannins and a dense fruit conducive to keeping, while the second wine, Baron de Brane, comes from terraces 3 and 5, lighter and floral. The grape variety is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
